1. Appearance inspection:
Welding surface: Observe whether there are obvious welding defects on the surface of the welded nut, such as pores, cracks, lack of fusion, undercut, etc. These defects may affect the strength and sealing of the welded nut.
Weld shape: Check whether the shape of the weld is uniform and regular, and whether the width and height of the weld meet the requirements. If the weld shape is irregular, it may cause uneven welding strength.
Welding spatter: Check whether there are too many spatters generated during welding. If there are too many spatters, it may affect the welding quality and may cause pollution to the surrounding environment and equipment.
Nut and weldment fit: Ensure that the welded nut fits well with the weldment without obvious gaps or deformation. If the fit is not good, it may cause insufficient welding strength or the nut to loosen during use.
2. Size detection:
Nut size: Use measuring tools (such as calipers, micrometers, etc.) to measure the size of the welded nut to ensure that it meets the design requirements. If the size deviation of the nut is too large, it may affect its fit with other parts, resulting in assembly difficulties or reduced performance.
Weld size: Measure the width, height, length and other dimensions of the weld to ensure that they meet the welding process requirements. If the weld size does not meet the requirements, it may affect the welding strength and sealing.
3. Nondestructive testing:
Ultrasonic testing: Use the propagation characteristics of ultrasonic waves in objects to detect whether there are defects inside the weld nut, such as pores, cracks, slag inclusions, etc. This method can detect smaller defects, but it has high technical requirements for operators.
Radioactive testing: Use X-rays or γ-rays to irradiate the weld nut, and determine whether there are defects inside the weld nut by detecting the absorption and scattering of the rays. This method can detect deeper internal defects, but requires professional equipment and protective measures.
Magnetic particle testing: Suitable for detecting surface and near-surface defects of ferromagnetic materials. Magnetic powder is applied to the surface of the weld nut, and then the magnetic powder is gathered at the defect through the action of the magnetic field, thereby showing the location and shape of the defect. This method is simple and easy, but it can only detect defects in ferromagnetic materials.
Penetrant testing: Apply penetrant to the surface of the weld nut to make it penetrate into the defect, then remove the excess penetrant, and then apply developer to make the penetrant in the defect appear, so as to detect the location and shape of the defect. This method is suitable for detecting surface opening defects, but it requires high operating skills of the inspector.
4. Mechanical properties testing:
Torque testing: By applying a certain torque to the weld nut, detect whether the nut can withstand the corresponding torque without loosening or damage. This method can directly reflect the connection strength of the weld nut.
Tensile test: The weld nut is subjected to a tensile test together with the weldment to measure its mechanical properties such as tensile strength and yield strength. This method can comprehensively evaluate the mechanical properties of the weld nut, but requires professional testing equipment.
Shear test: Perform a shear test on the weld nut to measure its shear strength. This method is suitable for detecting the performance of the weld nut when subjected to shear force.
Hardness test: Use a hardness tester to measure the hardness of the weld nut to evaluate its heat treatment effect and mechanical properties. Hardness testing can be used as an auxiliary means to help judge the quality of the weld nut.
5. Metallographic analysis: By analyzing the metallographic structure of the welded nut, the organizational structure and performance of the welded joint can be understood. Metallographic analysis can detect problems such as organizational changes and inclusions that may occur during welding, thereby evaluating the welding quality.
6. Chemical analysis: Analyze the chemical composition of the welded nut to ensure that it meets the design requirements. Chemical analysis can detect the content of impurity elements, alloy elements, etc. in the material, thereby judging whether the quality of the material is qualified.
7. Sealing test: If the welded nut is used for sealed connection, a sealing test is required to ensure that its sealing performance is good. Common sealing test methods include air pressure test, water pressure test, helium leak detection, etc.
8. Salt spray test: For some welded nuts used in harsh environments, salt spray tests are required to evaluate their corrosion resistance. Salt spray tests can simulate marine environments, industrial atmospheric environments, etc., and detect the corrosion resistance of welded nuts in these environments.
