1. Appearance inspection
First observe the surface of the screw. The surface of a high-quality flat head drilling screw should be smooth and flat, without obvious scratches, cracks, pits or protrusions. The coating should be uniform and without peeling. For example, the zinc layer of the galvanized screw should completely cover the surface of the screw, which has a good anti-rust effect. At the same time, the shape of the screw head should be regular, and the transition between the flat head part and the thread part should be natural and smooth, without skewness or deformation, which can ensure that it fits tightly with the connected surface during installation and ensures the stability of the connection.
2. Dimensional accuracy
Accurate dimensions are an important criterion for measuring quality. The pitch, diameter and length of the thread should all meet the corresponding standard specifications. You can use measuring tools such as calipers for detection. The pitch of the thread is uniform, the diameter error is within the allowable range, and the length is accurate. If the thread size is inaccurate, it may cause problems such as slipping, jamming or inability to connect tightly when tapping the material.
3. Material and hardness
Understand the material composition of the screw and test its hardness. Generally speaking, high-quality flat head self-drilling screws are made of high-quality carbon steel, stainless steel or other alloy materials. The hardness tester can detect whether its hardness meets the standard requirements. Screws with appropriate hardness can maintain good cutting performance and wear resistance during self-tapping, and will not deform or break easily. For example, the screws used in metal connections should have a hardness sufficient to penetrate the metal material and form a stable thread, while also having a certain toughness to withstand the stress during installation and use.
4. Performance test
Perform actual performance tests. A small number of screw samples can be taken for installation tests under simulated use environments and conditions to observe their self-tapping ability, tightening effect, and corrosion resistance. Screws with strong self-tapping ability can quickly and smoothly drill into the target material and form clear threads, and will not loosen easily after tightening. For screws with rust-proof requirements, they can be placed in a humid or corrosive environment for a period of time to check whether rust corrosion occurs, so as to judge the quality of their corrosion resistance.
